Dermal Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane & Radiesse)

Dermal Fillers in Manhattan New York, Injections, Fat Injections, Minimally Invasive

Dermal fillers are made from natural or synthetic materials that are broken down and absorbed by the body over time. They are temporary and will always need to be re-injected to maintain the desired appearance.

The duration of dermal fillers is variable and depends on the formulation of the material, how deeply it is injected and how much is used as well as how severe the wrinkles or folds are.

All injectables are combined with a local anesthetic so that the injections while uncomfortable don’t hurt. If a patient prefers, a longer lasting anesthetic can be used to create blocks that provide complete anesthesia of the areas being worked on and thus a completely pain free experience.

The degree of swelling and bruising varies from patient to patient, but most patients return to work the next day, even if they need to use a little cover-up.

Restylane®:
We are using Restylane®, which is hyaluronic acid is a natural polysaccharide that is commonly found in the connective tissues of the body. The most common areas for treatment are the naso-labial folds, the marionette creases, the lips, as well as cheek and chin contours. With Restylane®, we are seeing longevity of six months and even longer in some patients.

Juvederm:
Juvederm Is a smoother consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid. It is an injectable gel that instantly restores volume and hydration to the skin and smooths away facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm Ultra is best suited for defining the border of the lips or plumping up the lips themselves. It can also be used around the eyes to eliminate fine wrinkles and fill in the lower eyelids (tear-trough deformity). Juvederm Ultra Plus is best used to correct deep nasolabial folds (the creases that run from the base of the nose to the corner of the mouth) and the “marionette lines’ (the creases from the corner of the mouth to the chin. It can also be used to provide support for the corner of the mouth and to add volume to the cheeks. With Juvederm we are seeing results that last for at least six months and in some patients up to twelve months.

Radiesse:
Radiesse is the next generation dermal filler that not only corrects wrinkles and fills in lines but also adds long-lasting volume. Composed of calcium spheres suspended in a water-based gel, Radiesse stimulates the body to produce new collagen thus creating a result that last for an average of one year. Radiesse, which is opaque, has to be injected deeper than the other dermal fillers to allow for better soft tissue coverage and integration with the patient’s own tissues. Radiesse is best suited for correction of deep naso-labial folds, prominent laugh lines (marionette lines) and adding volume to the cheeks. In most cases, two syringes of Radiesse should be used to achieve maximum correction of the cheeks and naso-labial folds.

Autologous Fat:
Fat is a very common material used as a filling substance in facial rejuvenation. The fat that we inject into facial areas comes from your own body, so there is no chance of an allergic reaction. Fat can be used in higher volumes than most other injectable materials and can be used to create a fuller, more youthful appearance by reestablishing pleasing contours. Injections of fat into the deep layers of facial tissue can soften the angular, thin appearance that often accompanies aging. The procedure is a two-step process that usually requires several treatments. The fat must be harvested from your own body, typically from the abdomen, thighs or hips. After it is extracted, it is placed in a centrifuge to separate the fat from surrounding tissues. The fat is then packed into a syringe ready to be injected.

Fat injections have a very variable life span. Much of the fat may be absorbed within six months. The fat is slowly absorbed by the body, although the amount of absorption depends on many factors and is hard to predict. Typically, more than half of the fat used in injectable treatments is absorbed within six months of the procedure, although it may last longer. Almost all patients will permanently retain some of the injected fat. Follow up treatments are usually necessary.

Patient Safety:
Patient safety and comfort is paramount to Dr. Sadeh. Therefore, he carefully researches and investigates new fillers and technologies until he is confident that they are appropriate to offer to his patients. One of the greatest advantages to fillers as well as one of the greatest drawbacks is that they are not permanent and thus patients usually need to be treated several times a year. Long term filling substances such as silicone tend to be more risky and may cause lumps, scar tissue formation, and other complications following treatment. They should be avoided at all times!!!
