Breast Augmentation NYC

Breast Augmentation Information, Before and After Photos, Surgery Itself

Breast augmentation is performed to increase breast fullness and volume for women with small breasts or those who have experienced a decrease in breast size due to pregnancy or weight loss. There is a wide variety of implant designs, shapes, sizes, and textures, all of which have certain advantages and disadvantages. A breast implant is basically a soft, silicone envelope filled with either silicone gel or saline that is surgically implanted under the tissues of your chest to simulate natural breast tissue.

Since silicone gel filled implants were re-approved by the FDA for routine breast augmentation in November 2008, the majority of primary augmentations and revisional breast augmentations make use of silicone gel implants. The reason for this is that while saline filled breast implants can yield excellent cosmetic results, silicone gel filled implants continue to be the gold-standard for breast augmentation. Silicone gel filled implants are softer, associated with fewer complications and create a more natural looking and feeling breast.

Prior to surgery, an extensive sizing protocol is performed that includes various measurements of the chest, implants placed within a bra to simulate results with different size implants and photographs to better demonstrate subtle differences that exist in most breasts. All this allows you to make an educated decision as to what size implant you would like to have. Almost all implants used for breast augmentations today are round and smooth walled as experience has shown that use of these implants most consistently results in beautifully, enhanced breasts.

Breast augmentation may be performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The surgery consists of making an incision, and then creating a pocket beneath the pectoralis muscle into which the breast implant is placed. The incision may be made either in the crease below the breast, along the lower border of the areola or in the armpit. Incision placement depends on your anatomy and the type and size implant you choose, however, personal preference is always the primary consideration. To be sure, all of the approaches can result in nearly imperceptible scars. All of the options will be discussed in detail to allow you to make an informed decision.

Due to all of the technical advances of recent years, breast augmentation surgery has become simpler, less painful and more predictable. Patients may return to work within one week and to their normal strenuous physical activities within three to four weeks.
